Manchester United legend Paul Scholes backs new manager Erik ten Hag to succeed at Old Trafford

Former Manchester United legend Paul Scholes have suggested United’s new manager Erik ten Hag to implement his ideas and stamp his authority at the Old Trafford. Scholes wants the Dutchman to be strict with players who don’t go by his rules.

Manchester United’s lackluster season comes to an end without a top four position in the standings and no Champions League football for the upcoming season. So it will be difficult for Ten Hag to lure players away as most of them would need Champions League status to join the Red Devils.

Given the condition of the team, it will take a herculean effort from the former Ajax manager as he take sup the challenge of turning the table for Manchester United and pledges to bring back the lost glory.

Scholes, who was a part of the Golden Era in Manchester United’s history, loved the way Erik ten Hag conducted Ajax. He also admired the way they played football and felt that the Dutchman should gradually implement a similar style here at Old Trafford.

Therefore speaking to the Premier League Productions, Scholes spoke very highly about the Dutchman and believes that if he gets proper backing he can turn things around for the club. He shared how his strict rules keep players in check and that’s what made Ajax so great during his tenure.

“He expects hard from out of this group of players. They need that, he needs to stamp his authority on the club. When people don’t go by his rules, don’t play the way he wants them to, and they just go onto the football pitch with no discipline and not playing to the philosophy that he expects, then I expect them to be gone. He seems to work that type of way,” Scholes highlighted.

Scholes then revealed how he saw Erik ten Hag having a go at his players for not following instructions. The former legend believes that this is the exact attitude needed from a manager at Manchester United. He also pointed out his skill of promoting youth and nurturing young talent.

“I saw a couple of clips where he was at Ajax, having a go at a couple of players, which I thought ‘yeah, this is exactly what this club needs, this is what these players need’. He’s got a history of bringing in young players to a team as well,” Scholes concluded.

Erik ten Hag will hope to continue his philosophies even during his stay as manager for Manchester United. He rocked Europe with his engaging brand of football at Ajax and the world took notice and therefore he is given the big responsibility of turning things around at Manchester United.
