Alvaro Cervera Breaks the Silence

Álvaro Cervera will always be part of Cádiz CF history. For what he did, and for the legacy he has left behind. It’s been several months since the coach left the team, and in an interview with Libero, he has finally broken the silence and revealed how he feels after leaving the club he was with since 2016 and which he directed in 258 games.

“I’ve had a bad time; it’s been a long time doing the same thing in a place that I liked with a delightful routine for me. That was broken, you realize that it is part of your profession and that one day it has to come. Although mine didn’t go the way I expected.”

Cervera also commented on his relationship with the people of Cadiz beyond the pitch. “Someone with a certain name in Cádiz, and who has nothing to do with football, called me two days after I left and told me that my success in the city is not having trained Cádiz, it is having lived Cádiz, knowing how to understand people and wanted to understand the city with its pros and cons. The last day I was in the city before leaving, a person approached me on the Paseo Marítimo to say goodbye and said a phrase that stuck with me: “What you got for us was security. With you we knew that we were never going to go down to Second B, that the club was going to continue, that it was not going to disappear. We had never had it before”.

Another significant moment that Cervera reflected on is the call from Carlo Ancelotti that he received shortly after announcing his departure from Cadiz.

“My phone rang twice, and I didn’t answer it. I was with a group of people, and one of them got a call telling her that Ancelotti was calling me and to answer the my phone. Ancelotti told me to be calm, that it was part of our job and that it had happened to him several times, that I should rest, and that when I felt like it, I should go back to training”.

Cevera recalled that this is not the first time Real Madrid has made such kind gestures with him. “Throughout my career, Madrid has always had good gestures with me. As a player, I had a severe injury, and the only message I received was from Real Madrid. When we were promoted to Primera with Cádiz, the first personal message was from Butragueño, and now when this has happened to me, it has been Ancelotti. That makes it clear to you who Real Madrid is beyond affinities”.

These are challenging times for Cervera as he is in the middle of a legal battle with Cadiz since he had a contract until 2024, but the club has failed to recognize the two years remaining on his contract.

Manuel Vizcaíno, president of the Cadiz, has not complied with the agreement regarding the departure of the coach. Some conditions stipulated in the contract that he himself signed at the time and that, now, he intends to breach both legally and verbally.
