Argentina stars Nico Gonzalez and Giovani Lo Celso open up on their stories of missing the World Cup following their 7-0 win over Curacao

Two of Argentina’s footballers Nico Gonzalez and Giovani Lo Celso miss out the FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to various issues. But they have now returned to the Albiceleste setup and are enjoying the party back home.

Argentina recently thrashed Curacao 7-0 in a friendly match and it saw Gonzalez score a goal and Lo Celso came iup with two assists.

Both the players were tipped to make it to the World Cup team and were crucial to Lionel Scaloni’s plans. But injuries had dented their hopes of playing at the World Cup. However that did not stop their compatriots from giving it their all in Qatar and returning with the trophy, their first in 36 years.

Nico Gonzalez, who plies his trade for Fiorentina opened up on missing out of the World Cup and his reaction on Argentina winning the trophy after more than three decades. “This is pure joy, we just have to enjoy it. We feel part of this beautiful journey. You have to enjoy the World Cup, it’s something unique, you don’t get to experience it all the time,” Gonzalez stated.

He shared how missing out on a World Cup was the toughest thing to happen to a footballer. But he assured that his friends and family came together to support him during this situation.“Missing out on a World Cup is the most difficult thing that can happen to a football player. It was a difficult process but with the support of my family and friends, I was able to get through it. I am happy and calm to be able to wear this shirt again,” he added.

Meanwhile when Argentina declared that Lo Ceslo won’t be making the team many of the experts felt that his void would be detrimental to their plans. That is because of his adaptability and exceptional game awareness. He also provides massive creativity and frees up Messi from these duties, making him even more dangerous.

“It’s a very emotional moment for me, to put this shirt on again and to enjoy it with my team mates on the pitch. I tried to enjoy it to the fullest with our team and our people,” Lo Celso revealed his situation.

“It was very moving from the start. When I found out that the injury would prevent me from playing in the World Cup, I locked myself up and cried,” he opened up.

Argentina started with a setback against Saudi Arabia at the World Cup but since then things changed and the team started playing playing together. A sense of cohesion was seen among them and that mindset changed everything in the dugout. Suddenly they looked like favourite in the knockouts as they played out a gruelling final against France and ultimately won the coveted trophy for the first time in 36 years.

Lo Ceslo believes that when life takes away something from you, it also gives you back. He shared that he was able to witness the birth of his new baby girl. “But life gives and takes away. I was able to be at the birth of my daughter. Life, like football, always gives you revenge,” he concluded.

Argentina returned home for the first time since the World Cup triumph as they played Panama in a friendly match, followed by Curacao. It is an opportunity for the fans to celebrate their herocs who have helped this nation to win the World Cup again.
