Abraham ends two-month goal drought as Sampdoria draw with Roma

Tammy Abraham’s late strike was not enough to secure three points for AS Roma as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo.

This is good for Abraham, who broke his two-month Serie A goal drought.

Andrea Pinamonti broke Roma’s heart when he snatched a point for Sassuolo.

Since Roma was coming into the clash on the back of a defeat in the Rome Derby, this result could further dampen their current form.

It could be termed a good result for the hosts, who were coming off back-to-back defeats.

The real first chance of the encounter came to Luca D’Andrea, who drilled onto the side-netting. The hosts showed a further intention of scoring, but Rui Patricio flew to fingertip a Davide Frattesi scorcher out from under the crossbar.

Both teams had chances to open the goal account when Andrea Pinamonti resisted the urge to go down as Rui Patricio ran towards him while Roma countered that move. Andrea Consigli’s legs denied Eldor Shomurodov.

After moving past some defenders, Laurienté’s curler skimmed the far top corner while Frattesi nodded over from a corner.

Consigli rushed outside his penalty area to counter Shomurodov and managed to avoid a foul.

Roma had the biggest chance through Nicola Zalewski had a big chance to give Roma the lead on the stroke o half-time, only for him to volley over with the inside of the left boot from a Zeki Celik cross.

Sassuolo also failed to concert when presented with a huge chance on 76 minutes. Laurienté delivered a cross for unmarked Hamed Junior Traore, but he took a heavy first touch which allowed Rui Patricio to come flying out for the block.

When Roma finally broke the deadlock a few minutes before the game’s end, it looked like they would run away with the points.

After failing to score in seven games, Abraham, who came off the bench, scores with a towering header at the near post on Gianluca Mancini’s cross from the right.

Sassuolo eventually secured a point when they hit back through Pinamonti. After  Laurienté flew down the left, he pulled back from the by-line for Pinamonti’s flick from five yards, getting in front of Chris Smalling at the near post.
