Stefanos Tsitsipas wants his tennis to do the talking in reaction to Zverev’s ‘Big 3’ comments

The next generation of tennis stars are finally coming off age. Recently Daniil Medvedev defeated Novak Djokovic at the US Open to bag his maiden Grand Slam title. Alexandre Zverev has won the Tokyo Olympic gold and also won the highly competitive Nitto ATP Finals last year.

After last year’s success Alexander Zverev made a statement where according to him, he, Medvedev and Djokovic are the new ‘Big 3’. The statement had mixed reactions from different people in the tennis fraternity.

Recently after losing a group stage game to Diego Schwartzmann in the ATP Cup 2022, Stefanos Tsitsipas reacted to Zverev’s comments. The Greek tennis star wants his tennis to do the talking.

“Let tennis do the talking,” Tsitsipas said. “We have a long year ahead of us. Let us all play our best tennis, and let’s see who is the one that deserves it at the end of the year.”

However, Tsitsipas himself claimed back in November that eventually when Djokovic retires, he alongwith Medvedev and Zverev can transform into the new ‘Big 3’.

Tsitsipas started last season with the semifinals of the Australian Open, won his first Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo, and also reached the finals of the Roland Garros. But he was unfortunate with an elbow injury that derailed him for the rest of the season. He will be looking to make a big comeback in 2022 starting off with the Grand Slam Down Under.

Tsitsipas suffered a lot with the elbow injury and even underwent minor surgery to come back in action. The Greek made his return 2022 ATP Cup in preparation for the Australian Open.

Tsitsipas believes that he can get fully back in shape before the start of the Australian Open. But feels that he needs to be cautious as this is the first time he is going through something like this.

“(Two weeks) is enough (to make it to the Australian Open), I believe,” he told reporters. “But I haven’t had one (serious injury) before, so I don’t know. It’s my first time experiencing something like this.”

The 24-year-old tennis star’s serve has taken a big hit due to his elbow injury. While he is getting back to his best slowly, Tsitsipas is not very much sure about his participation in the Australian Open. He failed to make use of his serves and that resulted in a defeat against Schwartzmann.
