Djokovic recently won his 23rd Grand Slam title by lifting Roland Garros for the third time in his career.
The Serb defeated Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets to write his name in the history books. The veteran became the most successful male tennis player, leapfrogging Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 Grand Slams.
Djokovic is still going strong and has revealed that his aim is to win more Majors in the rest of his career. However, Federer admitted that is tough to pick the GOAT as long as Rafael Nadal is playing.
Nadal has decided to take an indefinite break from the game due to his hip injury and has revealed that 2024 will be his last season on the tour. “I think what Novak has done is unbelievable,” said Federer, who racked up 20 Grand Slams before he retired last year.
“The whole matter is difficult to answer,” said Federer. “I asked a friend, what is more difficult, winning Wimbledon at 17, like Boris Becker, or the French
Open at 36 like Novak?”
“But I think as long as Rafa is still playing, too, you can't answer that definitively yet,” said Federer.
Federer was honored at the Halle Open for Roger Federer Day and he was delighted to return to Halle, where he won a total of 10 singles titles.
“I don’t know. It’s a great time to be a tennis fan but also a player,” added the Swiss maestro. “It means a lot to me,” Federer said.
“Of course I’m overjoyed. I was able to shape this tournament myself with so many victories. It feels like a home away from home.”Meanwhile, Wimbledon starts on July 3 and Novak Djokovic will look to win his 24th Slam and his eighth Wimbledon.
