Novak Djokovic pulls out of US Open due to unvaccinated status

    August 26, 2022

Former World No.1 Novak Djokovic has decided to pull out of the upcoming US Open due to his unvaccinated status. Djokovic had decided to stay unvaccinated and thus he could not enter the country according to the current immigration US rules. USTA has revealed that they adhere to the government rules and regulations of Covid-19.

There were always dark clouds hanging on Djokovic’s participation in the New York Major as there was no change in the rules. The Serbian had earlier said he wouldn’t travel to the US if he doesn’t have clarity on his participation.

Djokovic took to his Twitter account to reveal the news and wished good luck to the other players for the final slam of the year.

Novak Djokovic wrote on his Twitter post, “Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open. Thank you #NoleFam for your messages of love and support. ❤️ Good luck to my fellow players! I’ll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again. ?? See you soon tennis world!”

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic had finished as the runners-up in the previous edition of the US Open after he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the final.

On the other hand, Djokovic could not take part in the Australian Open after he was deported from the country following a lot of controversies on his visa.

Djokovic was knocked out of the French Open as he lost against Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal clash. However, he went on to win Wimbledon after beating Nick Kyrgios in the final in a four-set contest.

Djokovic will look to make a solid comeback to the tour. The US Open begins on August 29 in New York.
