Young Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has said Novak Djokovic has shown he is prepared to win four Grand Slams & Olympic gold but he will try to be a spoilsport in the Serbian’s party. Djokovic had a stellar season in 2023, winning three out of the four Grand Slams and also the Nitto ATP Finals.
In fact, Alcaraz prevented Djokovic from winning the Calendar Slam after beating him in a thrilling Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz has certainly shown all the skills to beat Djokovic but he needs to be more consistent at the top level.
“With the Games in the summer, after Wimbledon, it’s going to be a tough season, like all the ones I’ve done so far. We’re going to try to get strong, get in the best possible shape, to try to make it the same or better than this season,” Carlos Alcaraz told the Mexican press (translated from Spanish via Madrid Actual).
The Spaniard said his aim will be to win an Olympic medal for his country in the Paris Olympics.
“And try to bring a medal to my country. That is what I would like the most and for which we are going to work,” he added.
Meanwhile, Djokovic has been in red-hot form and it will be a tough task for Alcaraz to put a spanner in his works. In fact, Djokovic has a glittering cabinet but an Olympic Gold medal is still missing in it.
“2024, with the Games, is going to be a special year for everyone, players, athletes, for people who love sports. Djokovic has already shown year after year that he is prepared to win the four ‘Grand Slam’ and the Olympic gold, but we are here to prevent it. It is going to be a very intense 2024,” he said.
Djokovic will take part in his fifth Olympic games whereas Alcaraz will make his debut at the major sporting event.
