Kyrgios has more chance to defeat Djokovic at Wimbledon, says Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has backed Nick Kyrgios to challenge Novak Djokovic in the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic, who has already won Australian Open and Roland Garros in the ongoing season, will be chasing his 24th Grand Slam title and his eighth Wimbledon title.

On the other hand, Nick Kyrgios is well known for his potent game on grass. The Australian had also made it to the final of Wimbledon in 2022 but he could not cross the final hurdle against Novak Djokovic.

However, Kyrgios hasn’t played in the 2023 season due to a left knee injury and recently underwent surgery. In fact, his Wimbledon chances are now in major doubt due to a knee injury, which has kept him out of action.

The controversial Australian has also pulled out of Halle Open in order to give his knee more time to recover before Wimbledon.

“Nick Kyrgios has already played a final in Wimbledon and he’s very good on grass as well. I am not saying that I am not capable of beating Djokovic, but I think I have less chances than on other surfaces. I think that Kyrgios has more chance to defeat Djokovic than any other player,” the 20-year-old Alcaraz was quoted as saying by Eurosport.

The Spaniard showed confidence that he can win any tournament he plays but admitted grass is not his strong suit.

“Well, I have always said that I think I can win any tournament I play. Obviously, on grass, it is a bit more complicated as I don’t have a lot of experience and in the matches I played I struggled on it. And obviously, Djokovic, together with Roger Federer, is one of the greatest players ever seen on a grass court. So, it’s already going to be complicated,” Alcaraz said.

Wimbledon starts on July 3.
