He loves the process: Steve Kerr draws comparisons between Steph Curry and Roger Federer

    June 14, 2022

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has likened his team’s talisman Steph Curry to legendary Tennis player Roger Federer. Kerr recalled an incident when Draymond Green met Roger Federer in Shanghai a couple of years ago and he asked Federer how he has managed to dominate the Tennis world for more than a decade.

Federer’s answer was simple as he said he enjoys his training regime and trains in a way to get the best out of himself. The Swiss Maestro is known to keep things simple on the court and the off-the-court balance has helped him in his glorious career.

“His answer was simple, yet profound,” Kerr shared. “He said, ‘I love my daily ritual. I get up and make my kids breakfast, drop them off at school and go train. I’ve figured out the right training methods to keep me in the best position at my age. I love competing, but every single day I put my head on the pillow and I just think, man, what a great day.’

“I think of Steph a lot when I think of that story from Roger Federer. Very similar zest for life and joy for the process.”

On the other hand, Steph Curry has the same hunger to do well and gives his best in the training sessions. Curry is one of the best shooters in the game and he has played a key role in the success of the Dubs in the ongoing season. The linchpin has also played an important role in taking GSW to the NBA Finals.

“It’s clockwork,” Kerr said,” but there’s also a sense of joy and energy within that work. He enjoys it so much. He loves the process.

“I think that’s one of the things that ties all great athletes together — the superstar athletes, the Roger Federer’s of the world, the Steph Curry’s of the world. There’s a routine that is not only super disciplined, but it’s really enjoyed each day.

“There’s a passion that comes with it, and that’s what sustains it over time. When you love something like those guys do, you work at it, you get better and you just keep going.”

Meanwhile, Roger Federer is currently out of action as he is recovering from a knee injury. The veteran has confirmed that he will take part in the Laver Cup and the Basel.

On the other hand, Golden State Warriors have taken a 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics after beating them by 104-94 in Game 5 of the series at Chase Center, San Francisco on Monday night.
