He is a full package but taking the mantle from Big 3 is not easy – Boris Becker on Carlos Alcaraz

Legendary tennis star Boris Becker has claimed Carlos Alcaraz is a full package as he has got all the ingredients in his game to be successful but also warned the Spaniard that taking the mantle from the Big 3 is not easy. Alcaraz clinched his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open 2022 and he has hogged the limelight with his impressive play.

Alcaraz recently won the Argentina Open and then also won Indian Wells after beating Daniil Medvedev in the final. The young Spaniard qualified for the semifinals of the Miami Open but lost to Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz has been making the right noises at the top level as he has the potential to go a long way in his career. The youngster is only expected to get better with more experience and he will look to keep delivering.

“First of all, it’s a very difficult mantle to take over.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic weren’t only tennis heroes, they are sporting heroes. They are cultural icons. You talk about the young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz as the next hot thing. He’s amazing, he plays great, he looks good and has the full package as a tennis superstar.

“But there’s a lot more to it than playing tennis. You have to come back, you have to defend your titles, you become a representative of your country and you’re getting into boxes you didn’t think existed before.”

“We have to be careful. Nobody is perfect and we have to watch that these tennis players are people. And people make mistakes,” Becker said at CloudFest, per Tennis Majors.

Alcaraz had suffered an injury in the semifinal of the Miami Open and thus decided to withdraw from Monte Carlo Masters.
