Carlos Alcaraz is going to dominate the circuit when Novak Djokovic is gone: Feliciano Lopez

Feliciano Lopez has predicted that Carlos Alcaraz is going to dominate the tour once Novak Djokovic hangs his boots. Alcaraz recently defeated the veteran Serbian in the Wimbledon final to claim his first grass major title.

The Spaniard ended Djokovic’s 46 match-winning streak at SW19 and he was beaten at the championship for the first time since 2017. Djokovic was chasing his 24th Grand Slam title and eighth Wimbledon crown but Alcaraz threw a spanner in the works.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz has shown all the skills to go a long way and he is ticking the right boxes in his young career. In fact, Djokovic also admitted he hasn’t faced a player like Carlos Alcaraz in his glorious career.

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic, 36, is at the fag end of his career but he will want to keep going strong. The Serbian has revealed that he wants to focus more on winning more Slams.

“A spectacular match. It’s very difficult to say that it started a new era, but I do think beating Nole in a Wimbledon final it’s a very big step in Carlos’ career.”

“Carlos and Nole [Djokovic] are the two best in the world by far. We’ll see how the year ends. Novak has two Grand Slams and Carlos has one. I think Alcaraz is going to dominate the circuit when Nole is gone, if everything remains the same,” Feliciano Lopez stated on CLAY.

The Spaniard continued his praise for Carlos Alcaraz, stating it is surprising to note the youngster blossom at such a young age.

“It’s very rare to see someone like Carlos win titles at 20, to be able to challenge Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. I think he is very mature for his age and the proof is the courage with which he faced the most difficult moments of the match in the fifth set,” Lopez said.

Lopez showered praise Alcaraz for embracing the pressure with both hands and delivering when it matters.

“He’s been under a lot of pressure since he started playing professional tennis. He seems comfortable with the pressure and it’s really impressive what he’s done so far,” the 41-year-old added.
