Snooker World Championship 2023: Preview, Schedule, and Prize Money

    March 7, 2023

From March 6th to 11th, snooker enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting tournament, the Six-red Snooker World Championship, which will be held in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

A total of 32 players, including four qualifiers, will compete in the final stages of the event. This news article will provide you with the latest news, previews, and information on this highly anticipated championship.

The COVID pandemic disrupted the plans for past editions, but after four years, the tournament is now making a comeback.

Stephen Maguire is the current title holder after defeating John Higgins in the 2019 final. This year, both Scots are back to compete for the chance to become champions again.

The organizers of the tournament have scored a major victory with Ronnie O’Sullivan’s presence at the event in Bangkok.

Other top players, including Judd Trump, Mark Williams, and Stuart Bingham, will also be participating alongside experienced veterans such as Jimmy White and Ken Doherty.

The qualification rounds for the upcoming event were held at the Metrodome in Barnsley, England, spanning from January 7th to 9th, 2023. The tournament format saw one player from each quarter of the draw earn a spot in the final stage in Thailand, with a total of four players qualifying. Additionally, eight players were given byes directly to Round 2.

It’s worth noting that Ricky Walden secured a place in the main event draw after a top 16 player withdrew, granting him an automatic entry.

The 2023 World Championship is set to offer a total prize pool of $313,396 or ฿11,000,000, with the winner taking home approximately $121,951 or ฿4,200,000. The tournament will be split into two stages, consisting of the group stage and the playoff stage, as is customary.

During the group stage, players will be placed into groups of four. After the group stage concludes, two players from each group will advance to the knockout stage.
