    UFC248: Adesanya v Romero Preview

    March 6, 2020

On Saturday, March 7, we would get to witness the fight between two fighters whose paths have never crossed before as Israel Adesanya gets to face Cuban Yoel Romero.

The two middleweights have extensive records and we would get to see who is the better fighter between the two at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Adesanya, who started his career as a mixed martial artist in 2012, has a total of 18 fights, winning all of them, 14 of them won by knock out. He is also a professional boxer who has won 5 of his 6 fights. His 5 wins were won in a row after his first fight ended in a loss that gathered controversy.

Since joining the UFC in 2017, he has fought 7 fights, winning 3 by knockout. He has proven himself as a lethal puncher and his background as a kickboxer has also given him an edge. The 30-year-old fighter currently holds the belt for the UFC middleweight division champion.

Yoel Romero has a career record of 17 fights with 13 wins and 4 losses. Despite that, he has continued to garner respect because of his status as an Olympic medalist after the silver medal in the 2000 Olympic Games as a wrestler. Since then, he has also won other medals as a wrestler.

He began his mixed martial arts career in 2009 and won his first four fights. After joining the UFC in 2013, he continued to win some fights, ending most by a knockout. His last two matches ended in a loss.

The two boxers have almost nothing in, especially as regards age, with Romero being almost 13 years older than Adesanya. Age is a very necessary factor in UFC but Romero is determined not to let that be against him. He said, on Wednesday, that he is going to “prove there are no limits.”

He mentioned that age, for him, was just a number and that if a person can discipline their life, they would achieve anything they want. He also stressed that even if he lost, he was not going to quit the UFC anytime soon.

If Romero wins the fight, he would be the oldest person to win the UFC Middleweight Championship belt.
