Reynolds, McElhenney join a group to acquire a stake in Alpine

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, widely recognized in the sports world as the owners of Wrexham Football Club, have become part of an investor group acquiring a notable 24% equity stake in Alpine, a prominent Formula 1 team.

The announcement, made by Renault, the parent company of Alpine, disclosed the participation of Reynolds, McElhenney, along with Otro Capital, and RedBird Capital Partners.

This significant investment, valued at approximately £171 million, has resulted in an impressive £706 million valuation for Alpine Racing, which operates from its base in Britain. Presently occupying the fifth position in the F1 constructors’ championship, Alpine is poised to benefit from the financial strength and media influence that Reynolds and McElhenney bring to the team.

Reynolds and McElhenney’s involvement in sports ownership extends beyond Formula 1. In 2021, they took over Wrexham football club, and the change in management led to the team’s promotion to the Football League in 2023.

RedBird Capital Partners, with stakeholders including Drake and NBA veteran LeBron James,  holds investments in prestigious clubs such as Liverpool FC, AC Milan, and Toulouse FC. Their partnership with Alpine is expected to unlock new opportunities for growth and success. Laurent Rossi, the CEO of Alpine, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to elevate performance and enhance the team’s media presence, consequently ensuring Alpine’s long-term prosperity in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.

With their proven track record in the sporting industry, Reynolds and McElhenney are well-positioned to contribute their business acumen and strategic insights to Alpine’s operations.

The news of this investment group joining forces with the team makes the future look quite promising for Alpine. They will undoubtedly benefit from the financial backing, media attention, and industry expertise that Reynolds, McElhenney, Otro Capital, and RedBird Capital Partners bring to the table. The Formula 1 world will be watching with anticipation as Alpine aims to make significant strides in the championship with the support of its new investor group.
