England Wins Third Test Match In Port Elizabeth

    January 21, 2020

England has moved the scores of their ongoing test fixture against South Africa to 2-1 as they won the third test by an innings and 53 runs.

This would be their best test win as visitors, breaking a record they set in 2010 in Australia. Ollie Pope did his country proud by hitting 137 runs, his first century, while Ben Stokes, who was recently awarded ICC player of the year, made 120 runs. With just one match left, England has the upper hand in winning this test series as visitors.

Before the recent win, England has played a fairly good game, hardly making any impact, although playing well, making Stokes claim their visit to Port Elizabeth was a “cursed tour.” But things took a good turn for the boys today as they were able to defeat their opponents, sending them out at 237 runs. Dom Bess also made his first five-wicket in a game. Skipper Joe Roots also made five wickets as he captained the boys to excellence.

The bad weather that loomed did nothing to dampen the boys’ spirits or save the South African side. Keshav Maharaj did well for his team. He was the singular reason why the margin between England and South Africa was not very bad as he hit 71 runs for his side, shortening the difference.

He and Dane Paterson held it strong for the home team, but it was not enough. The South African side is suffering from proper guidance as their Captain Faf du Plessis seems to be found wanting, making coach Mark Boucher doubt if he can continue his work as captain of the team. Although du Plessis was quick to admit that they batted poorly and also described Ben Stokes as a thorn in the side of the South Africans.

One remarkable thing about England’s win is how they pressed on against the odds. Two of their bowlers have suffered injuries, and a wave of illness hit the camp. The surprising thing is the show of coordination among the younger players, playing a better game, and helping to secure the wins for their team.
