World number one, Scottie Scheffler, has added another title to his name after beating off a star-studded pitch to win the 2022 The Masters title. Scheffler, who won his first PGA Tour title in February, finished 10 under, at one-under 71, on Sunday to win his fourth PGA Tour title. North Irishman Rory McIlory finished 7 under to settle for second place, while Cameron Smith and Shane Lowry jointly shared the third position after finishing 5 under. Tiger Woods, who was playing in his first professional tournament since last year February, finished 47th.

Scheffler started the day with a three-shot lead that quickly reduced to one as he was being chased by Smith. Scheffler regained the lead at the fourth hole after Smith’s bogey on the third. By the eighth hole, McIlroy joined the duo before making a birdie on the 10th and an eagle on the 13th.

Scheffler continued to make mistakes, with a bogey on the ninth and missing the chance to make a birdie on the 13th. But he compensated for that with birdies on the 14th and 15th, extending his lead. Even though he fumbled at the last hole, it did not matter again.

Scheffler’s triumph at The Masters is glorious in every way. This time last year, the 25-year-old was without a title to his name, and now, he has a green jacket in his trophy cabinet. He has been nothing short of impressive since February, and his win on Sunday would further extend his stay as world number one. The American has also joined the list of youngest golfers to win the Major, ranking at number 9 on the list.

Speaking after the game, Scheffler confessed that he “cried like a baby” before the final round as he was unsure of the outcome of the event. It is interesting to see that things turned out good for him.
