Wayne Rooney urges Sancho to stay put

    July 8, 2019

Former Manchester United frontman Wayne Rooney has urged Jadon Sancho to reject a move to Old Trafford and stay at Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old decided to leave Manchester City’s academy in 2017 and his call looks to have paid off in recent years.

Sancho has since made 46 appearances in the Bundesliga for Dortmund while he has played six games for England under boss Gareth Southgate.

He scored 13 goals and grabbed 19 assists last season and that form has caught the eye of Manchester United and several other European giants.
United chiefs are set to wait 12 months, with the club’s board believing a lack of Champions League football will scupper the deal.

Rooney, United’s all-time record goalscorer, has claimed a return to England could be risky and he has told Sancho to stay put.

“Dortmund is a great club with great fans, they trust their young players and you can see that in Sancho and the progress he has made in the last 12 months,” he told Bild.

“Now Jadon has to ask himself whether he would get the playing time he gets in Dortmund when he moves to England, or would he just sit on the bench? “Playing time is so important for a young player like Jadon, so if he gets the most playing time in Dortmund, he should stay there.”

Dortmund will be looking to sustain a title push this season, after falling away last year. Die Borussen will start the campaign against Augsburg and they are 5.50 to get their hands on the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2012.
