    Ryan-Giggs-Wales-Euro-2020

    Wales vs Azerbaijan Match Preview

    September 7, 2019

The Dragons are hoping to get back their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign back on track as they face Azerbaijan in Cardiff on Friday evening.

The Dragons have lost their previous qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary and hopeful of getting victory in their next match. On the other hand, Azerbaijan has lost all of their last three opening games and so far hoping for their first win.

Wales lacks Aaron Ramsey, as the midfielder continues to recover from his hamstring injury. The Dragons will turn to Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale to provide the goals after the Welsh national scored a brace for Real Madrid. Manchester United winger Daniel James and Bournemouth winger Harry Wilson have been selected by Wales Coach, Ryan Giggs who have both been in impressive form.

Azerbaijan are in dreadful form, having failed to win a single game during 2019. Their last result was a 5-1 defeat to Slovakia, which was rather disastrous.

Nikola Jurcevic lads are the whipping boys of Group E so far and are placed last on the group’s log and face a daunting task of defeating Wales. Nikola Jurcevic has made quite a number of calls in the changes to his squad for the latest round of international fixtures. The Azerbaijan head coach has excluded Badavi Huseynov, Namik Alaskarov, Eli Babayev, Aleksey Isayev and Mirabdulla Abbasov from the squad that turned out against Slovakia in June.

The two sides have played each other five times with Wales coming out top on five occasions as well as a drawback in 2004. The previous two fixtures took place during the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, where Wales won 1-0 home and away.

The game will be officiated by Farrugia Can Trust in and will be played at Cardiff City Stadium.

    Probable line-ups

Wales: Hennessey; Gunter, Mepham, Lawrence, Davies; Ampadu, Allen, Smith; Wilson, James, Bale.

Azerbaijan: Agayev; Medvedev, Hüseynov, Krivotsyuk, Rahimov; Babayev, Eyubov, Richard; Abdullayev, Ramazanov; Sheyda.

    Prediction

Wales are obviously the better side and are also very desperate for a win. Azerbaijan do not pose any threat away from home and are not likely to cause an upset in Wales.

    Wales 3 – 0 Azerbaijan
