Tierney Opens Up On Decision To Leave Celtic

Kieran Tierney discussed his decision to come to Arsenal and also admitted that leaving Celtic was the hardest decision he ever had to make as a professional soccer player.

Tierney made the move from Scotland to London last summer, leaving his boyhood team to move to Emirates Stadium. His move came after 170 appearances for Celtic. He also established himself as a regular defender for the Scottish national team.

While a move out of Scotland was a dream come true for him, he insisted that leaving Celtic after nearly 15 years with the team was a very hard decision.

“I would say leaving Celtic was the hardest decision I’d ever had to make and I knew I would always miss Celtic no matter what happens in life,” Tierney said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything.

He continued: “but the chance to play for Arsenal was a challenge that when I heard of it, I was just looking forward to it.”

Tierney’s time with Arsenal has been difficult, to say the least, as the talented defender has battled injuries since making the move to London.

The 22-year-old from Scotland underwent a double hernia operation in May 2019, which would end up delaying his Arsenal debut.

Kieran Tierney was finally able to recover and he eventually made his long-awaited debut with the Gunners on September 24, one month before he made his Premier League debut.

A shoulder injury would end up limiting Tierney later in the season and he has only made 11 total appearances in his Arsenal career so far.
