There’s so much to improve on – Rio Ferdinand names 5 Manchester United stars who are not at their best at the moment

    January 6, 2022

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has named five club players who are underperforming at the moment. Ferdinand reckons Jadon Sancho, Edison Cavani, Harry Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford are not at their best and they are lacking in confidence on the pitch.

These five players haven’t been able to deliver the goods for the team and their mundane performance has led to the downfall of the club. The Red Devils haven’t been at their best as they lost their previous match against Wolves by 1-0. Furthermore, they played a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United.

Thus, a lot of football pundits have raised questions on players’ performances and also on Ralf Rangnick’s strategy.

Rio Ferdinand said on his YouTube Channel, “I think there’s so much to improve on, as there are individuals but also the team shape as at the moment it doesn’t seem to be suiting certain players. We haven’t yet seen the [Jadon] Sancho of Dortmund, [Marcus] Rashford looks like a shadow of his former self, [Edinson] Cavani isn’t firing really, [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka is shot of confidence, and [Harry] Maguire is lacking confidence at the moment.”

On the other hand, former Manchester United right-back showered praise on Phil Jones, who made a decent comeback against Wolves. Jones returned back to action after a long hiatus of 712 days as he was out due to injury.

He added, “For someone to come in from the cold like that, you have to tip your hat to someone like that. I’m just pleased he got through the game unscathed, no injuries. He put in a decent performance after such a long time out, that’s not easy to do. So you’ve got to tilt your hat to Phil Jones. Albeit, his header was the one that fell to [Joao] Moutinho’s foot before he scored, but I thought he was class for long periods in the game.”

Manchester United is currently in the seventh position in the points table with 31 points after 19 games. The Red Devils will next face Aston Villa on Monday in the third round of the FA Cup.
