Sterling Scores twice as Man City puts Watford in danger of relegation

    July 22, 2020

A first-half brace from Raheem Sterling sets at Manchester City on the sale to a 4-0 victory over Watford in the English Premier League on Tuesday night.

Manchester City were knocked out of the FA Cup semi-final by Arsenal at the weekend on Saturday in a 2-0 loss in a match played at Wembley Stadium but came out all blazing against Watford FC who are not yet certain about their Premier League status for next season as they sit precariously close to the relegation zone.

Watford, on the other hand, had sacked their manager Nigel Pearson a day before the game as Under-23 coach Hayden Mullins and his assistant Graham Stack took charge of the game, and they conceded the first goal in the 31st minute as Raheem Sterling scored with a wonderful effort.

Before half-time, Watford player will Hughes fouled Raheem Sterling, but the English International had his penalty saved on the first attempt by the Watford goalkeeper before nipping in the rebound to double Manchester City’s lead into half-time.

Aymeric Laporte and Phil Foden scored in the second half as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 victory, and their fourth league win in four league games could have had more goals, but Gabriel Jesus’ goal in stoppage time was ruled out for offside.

The scoreline did big damage to Watford’s goals difference as a win for Aston Villa in their own game against Arsenal could lift them out of relegation and push the Hornets into the drop zone.

Aston Villa started their own game against Arsenal later in the evening with an early goal from Egyptian forward Trezeguet. They won the game 1-0, and defeated the Gunners.
