Spurs Overcome Saints In FA Cup 5-goal Thriller

    February 6, 2020

Tottenham Hotspur overcame a very stubborn Southampton side 3-2 on Wednesday night to qualify for the next round of the English FA Cup.

The first leg at the Saint Mary’s Stadium had ended 1-1 with the replay at the new White Hart Lane Stadium starting out very well for Jose Mourinho’s men. Tottenham Hotspur took the lead in the first 12 minutes after an own goal from the saints defender Jack Stephens.

It wasn’t long before Shane Long equalised for Southampton in the 34th minute as both teams went on the break level on goals.

The second half started slowly but it wasn’t long before Southampton took the lead in the 72nd minute, as Danny Ings scored but later on just six minutes after Lucas scored via a Dele Alli assist.

After that, the game was heading for another draw and possibly a penalty shootout but Son Heung-Min changed the course as he scored from the penalty spot after Angus Gun infringed on a Tottenham Hotspurs player in the box.

Son Heung-Min’s kick was decisive as he scored and sent Spurs to the next round where they will face Norwich City.

The team will now play Aston Villa in the English Premier League on the 16th of February.
In other quarter-final fixtures, Sheffield Wednesday would host Manchester City, Arsenal will travel to Portsmouth and Leicester will host Birmingham.

Wayne Rooney would have the opportunity to face his former Club Side Manchester United as Derby would host to the Red Devils and other quarterfinal games.

West Brom will host Newcastle while Reading and Sheffield United will go head-to-head.

Liverpool after scaling past Shrewsbury on Tuesday will have the opportunity to face fellow English Premier League side Chelsea after the team of youngsters beat the lower division team by 1-0.
