Southgate demands resilience from England ahead of Germany clash

    September 26, 2022

England manager Gareth Southgate has admitted to a challenging period for his Three Lions team but insists his team will be resilient going into their next UEFA Nations League game against Germany.

England lost 1-0 to Italy days ago and thus relegating into League B while they prepare to face Germany with concerns about their form going into the World Cup.

It’s in contrast to a team he led to the semifinals at the Russia 2018 World Cup four years ago and the UEFA Euros final in Wembley last year.

However, Southgate admits to the drop in the team’s performance recent, but he believes that they keep improving ahead of the Mundial.

“The results haven’t been at the level we want, that we require, so no matter what job you have in football, that would be the case. I’m not hiding from it. We are not enjoying it, but we have to keep doing the right things every day to keep improving.” Southgate said.

England has played close to 500 minutes of football without scoring from open play, with San Marino the only other nation with similar statistics.

The Three Lions are winless in five games, having drawn against Italy at Molineux and lose 4-0 in a shocking game against Hungary.

Unfortunately, time is not on the side of the Europeans as they face Germany on Monday night, their final game before their first world cup game in Qatar.

England is grouped alongside Wales, the USA, and Iran. It is the Asians they face first on November 21 in Doha.

Their subsequent group matches will be against the USA and a British derby against Wales.

Meanwhile, Germany also hopes to bounce back from a 1-0 reverse against Hungary in their last UEFA Nations League game.

Hungary will face Italy on Monday with a chance in the UEFA Nations League semifinals.
