Seven-goal thriller as Frankfurt defeats Werder Bremen 4-3

    August 29, 2022

It was a festival of goals in Bremen as Eintracht Frankfurt edged Werder Bremen 4-3 in a seven-goal encounter on Sunday.

Despite Frankfurt’s poor start to the campaign, Glasner’s men went ahead 1-0 in the space of three minutes as two of Frankfurt’s new signings combined well as Kolo Muani drilled a cutback pass Mario Götze who was left isolated on his own to slot home for a cool finish.

The game became tensed as Bremen searched for an equalizer and were duly rewarded fifteen minutes later when Anthony Jung slammed home past Kevin Trapp to level 1-1 following a weak Ndicka clearance.

It was 2-1 three minutes later when a dangerous freekick whipped in by Ducksch found the head of Bittencourt to nod home.

With just 32 minutes played, Frankfurt drew level 2-2 after Muani, who was instrumental in the first goal and picked over for a start with the likes of Alario and Borré on the bench.

Frankfurt wasn’t done as they took the lead in the 39th minute when Lindstrom was fed an amazing pass by skipper Sebastian Rode as he chipped the onrushing Pavlenka.

It was an end-to-end attacking football from both sides, with Frankfurt further stretching their lead in the 48th minute through Sow to make it 4-2.

Bremen rallied around to get back in the game, and we’re awarded a penalty in the 92nd minute when Ndicka was adjudged to have caught Ducksch’s left leg in the 18-yard area as Füllkrug stepped up to place in the left corner past Trapp to make it 4-3.

There was nothing the home side could do to force a draw as Frankfurt held on for a nervy win at the end.

Frankfurt welcomes RB Leipzig on Saturday, September 3, as they look to continue their rejuvenation of this campaign.
