Sensi makes memorable debut as Sampdoria thrash Sassuolo

    February 7, 2022

New Sampdoria signing, Stefano Sensi made a memorable debut for his team as they spanked Sassuolo 4-0 in the Serie a clash played on Sunday.

This will be a  huge confidence booster for a team that have been struggling. They were able to record maximum points through Francesco Caputo, who scored against his old club, Sensi and Andrea Conti, and Antonio Candreva’s Panenka penalty.

The Blucerchiati handed Sensi straight away after completing his loan move from Inter.

Caputo wasted no time in scoring against his former employers as he put Samp in the lead in the opening minutes.  The striker got the goal from a short corner from Candreva. The former Inter Milan man whipped a cross to the back post and Caputo was there to steer a cushioned volley into the far top corner from a very tricky angle.

Sampdoria later made it two moments through debutant, Sensi. The midfielder became a beneficiary of the ball after Morten Thorsby knocked down a Bartosz Bereszynski cross, and Manolo Gabbiadini’s shot was parried into his path.

In fighting back, Sassuolo hit the target through Gianluca Scamacca’s header, which was denied by a great save. Thorsby also charged down the Domenico Berardi follow-up.

The hosts continued their flurry of attack and almost got a penalty, but their appeal was turned down. Alex Ferrari had a mistimed tackle on Sensi, but the referee didn’t give it.

Wladimiro Falcone also stopped the Giacomo Raspadori angled drive at the near post with his leg.

Sam will later get their third when Candreva floated a free-kick to the back post, and Andrea Conti connected with it with a wonderful cushioned volley off the inside of the right boot.

Falcone was also alert when he palmed a deflected Berardi free-kick out of the top corner. The goalie did the same on a Raspadori snapshot.

Andrea Consigli conceded a penalty when he brought down Caputo. Candreva made no mistake by converting a cheeky Panenka penalty.
