Real Madrid Receives Fitness Boost as Varane Returns to Training

    May 11, 2021

La Liga title-chasers Real Madrid has been handed an injury boost with French defender, Raphael Varane, returning to first-team on Monday.

While the World Cup winner has returned to training, it’s not early enough for him to take part in the midweek game against Granada at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium on Tuesday.

The defender suffered a micro-tear suffered in the abductor’s muscle in his right leg last week and with his return to the training, he may just be back in time for a clash with Athletic Bilbao at the weekend and Real’s last game of the season against Villarreal.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will still be without Sergio Ramos, right-back duo of Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez for the remainder of the campaign.

Real Madrid is in second place on the La Liga table with 75 points, two points behind Atletico Madrid after playing a 22 draw with Sevilla on Sunday at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium.

Atletico Madrid on top of the table with 77 points with three matches left to play in this season the day was over with Barcelona who entered a position on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in the La Liga on Monday evening, Real Betis defeated Granada 2-1 to improve their chances of a place in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Borja Iglesias opened the scoring for the home side just six minutes before the break while Darwin Machis equalized for Granada in the 66th minute.

However, Borja Iglesias completed his brace with 3 minutes left to play in the match to ensure that Real Betis went home with all three points and put a firm grip on their sixth-place standing on the table.

Real Betis has 54 points, 2 points away from Real Sociedad and 2 points above 7th placed Villarreal.
