PSG unsure of Lionel Messi’s future as they make contract U-turn

    March 21, 2023

Ligue 1 giant Paris Saint-Germane seem to have changed their mind in offering world cup winner Lionel Messi.

This follows his recent for as Rennes ended PSG 35 home matches unbeaten record with a 2-0 last weekend at Parc De Princes.

The current situation has linked the Argentina captain with a move to Saudi Arabia and the MLS.

Owing to his current form Paris Saint-Germain are still determining about tying Lionel Messi down to a new deal.

That allows Messi to negotiate with other clubs interested in him as his current deal ends this summer.

Many top clubs are expected to monitor the situation as they could pounce on the opportunity to sign Messi on a Bosman deal.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who signed a two-year deal in 2021 after he switched from Barcelona, had held talks with the club, and both parties seemed confident of him staying beyond the summer.

Before his drop in form, Messi has been sensational, scoring 13 times and registering 13 assists in 23 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

However, the 35-year-old had put his foot off the gas in recent weeks and failed to make an impact when they were beaten at home by Rennes on Sunday.

L’Equipe reported that the club needs to know whether they want to keep Messi at the end of the season or lose him in a free transfer.

According to some sources, some at the club are considering a change in direction’ in the playing squad, while others believe that letting Messi leave might be the fans’ preferred option, too.

Unfortunately, Messi, alongside his teammates, was booed by sections of the PSG supporters as the teams were called out before the game against Rennes.

Frustration made Messi go straight down the tunnel after the game while his teammates applauded the home fans.
