Poland To Face England Without Lewandowski

    March 30, 2021

England will host Poland at the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday with the Poles without influential Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Three Lions won their first two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against San Marino and Albania.

England thrashed San Marino 5-0 before beating Albania 2-0 at the weekend to top their group.

Poland, on the other hand, drew 3-3 with Hungary in their first match, before a 3-0 win over Andorra in their second game.

While England sits atop the group with six points from 2 games, while Poland are second with four points.

However, Lewandowski, who won the German League and Cup double and the Champions League with Bayern Munich last season, will be out of the game after sustaining an injury.

The former Dortmund striker sustained an ankle injury during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Andorra, where he scored a brace.

According to a statement by the Polish FA, the striker faces up to 10 days out with ligament damage.

He has now gone back to Germany for further treatment on the injury, and he will be in a race against time to be fit for Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris St-Germain in nine days’ time.

Lewandoski, who is the current FIFA World Best Player of the Year, has been in terrific form this season. He was instrumental in helping Bayern Munich to a sextuple last season. The 32-year-old forward is the all-time top scorer for the Polish national team. He has scored 66 goals in 118 appearances for the team.

In the next round of European World Cup qualifying matches taking place today, Azerbaijan will take on Serbia while Portugal will face Luxembourg. Belgium will be hoping to grab a comfortable win over Belarus, while Wales face a tricky encounter against Czech Republic. High-flying Montenegro will welcome Norway, while Netherlands will go away to Gibraltar.
