Paul Scholes not sure whether Martin Odegaard’s flick was intentional as Arsenal defeated Watford

Arsenal recently defeated Watford 3-2 in the Premier League where Martin Odegaard came up with a brilliant flick in the buildup of his goal. It was the highlight of the game as he played with a lot of conviction and that particular move was simply sensational.

Odegaard’s opening goal in the fifth minute after some brilliant linkup with Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the upper hand in the game against Watford. However former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes feels that the flick in build performed by the former Real Madrid was not intentional.

Scholes highlighted how he is not fully sure whether the Norwegian midfielder meant that move or not. He feels that Odegaard deserves credits if he really executed that flick.

“We’re not sure if he means this, Odegaard to Saka, but if he does, give him credit, it’s a lovely finish. ‘I’m not 100 per cent sure [if he meant it]. I think from one angle it does look like he meant it, from this angle I think he’s a little bit lucky, I think he’s just wanting it to let it run across his body, it catches his heel and plays in Saka.”

Odegaard has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season. He has scored five goals and provided three assists in 23 appearances in the Premier League.

The Norway international had a successful loan stint in North London after that convinced Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to sign him on a permanent basis from Real Madrid.

Speaking on the move, Odegaard cleared how he finally feels at home at the Emirates. He said, “Yes, definitely. I feel like I’m home now. I have had time to settle down – for the last five years I’ve been all over the place with loans here and there. So I feel like I’ve finally got that stability and the calmness I needed. So I’m really happy, yes.”

His stint at Real Madrid was long but it was far from fruitful as he suffered persistent injury problems and never really got a long stretch of consistent game time. So he is very happy at Arsenal currently playing an important role in midfielder and is focused on helping the Gunners get back to the Champions League.

“Obviously that is the target. So we will do everything to get there and we will take it game by game and try to win each one and then we’ll see in the end – but of course, that’s the big goal and I believe we can do it. I think we have the quality to do it,” he concluded.
