Olivier Giroud is a player who has had a decent career but has never been figured out as a big star.
In fact, when we think of outstanding French players, the first names that come to mind are Michele Platini, Thierry Henry, or, more recently, Kylian Mbappe.
Another great French footballer is Zinedine Zidane. A World Cup winner in 1998 and Euro 2000 champion, Zidane is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was a masterful playmaker with superb technique and vision.
But Giroud is about to make history with the French team.
Giroud equaled the legend Thierry Henry, on Tuesday, with 51 goals, as the all-time top scorer for the French team.
Henry has scored 51 goals in 123 games he has played for France, averaging 0.44 goals per game, while Giroud has 115, averaging 0.41.
So now Giroud has everything left of the World Cup to surpass Henry’s mark and become the all-time top scorer.
“Today, it is a blessing to reach this record. I am very grateful and feel blessed. With work and perseverance, with this team that is very talented and has great group cohesion, we hope to do great things. These are values that I try to instill in my children,” Giroud told the press.
Giroud, together with Kylian Mbappe, forms Antoine Griezmann, one of the most feared forwards in the World Cup, and the combination of the three is giving good results for France.
