Not good enough – Steve Nicol slams two Manchester United players

    December 31, 2021

Manchester United has not been up to the mark in the ongoing season and their player’s performance has come under immense scrutiny. The Red Devils were not at their best in their previous encounter against Newcastle United as they had to share the spoils after a disappointing performance.

In fact, Manchester United has claimed a solitary win in their last three matches across all competitions. Former Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has slammed two of Manchester United players who are not doing justice to their respective jobs. Nicol singled out midfield pair of Fred and Scott McTominay for their mundane performance for the club.

Nicol stated that the duo is not good enough and none of the good teams would want players like them on their side.

Nicol told ESPN FC, “Look at the middle of the park, who’s going to have Fred and McTominay in their team? Of the good sides, none of them. So, you look at the front four and you think ‘why are these guys not producing?'”

Nicol added that Fred and McTominay are failing to provide the ball to the attackers and they are struggling to keep the ball.

“Well, are they getting enough of the ball? Well, if you can’t get enough of the ball against Newcastle, who quite frankly look as though they’re going to go down in my opinion, then what chance have you got?

“So you could have anybody you want upfront that you could pick, if you can’t get them the ball you’re not going to score goals. And if the two in the middle can’t get the front four the ball, and they’re not stopping anybody gets through to the backline…

“So as much as it’s Rangnick’s fault, a lot of it is the players are just not good enough,” the former Liverpool right-back added.

Meanwhile, Manchester United hasn’t been at their best in the ongoing season as they occupy the seventh position on the table, with 28 points from 17 games. The Red Devils are currently 22 points behind table-toppers Manchester City but have played three games fewer than the leaders.

Manchester United will next face Burnley FC at Old Trafford.
