Norwich City Return To The Championship After Loss To West Ham

    July 13, 2020

Norwich City’s stay in the English Premier League has been cut short after a 4-0 loss to West Ham at the Carrow Road condemned them to an immediate return to the championship.

With just three matches left to be played, the Canaries are 13 points from safety and thus relegated for the third time in seven seasons.

West Ham United bounced back from their 1-0 loss at home to Burnley last week to thrash the Canaries with Michail Antonio scoring all four goals on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s side before the game were on an 8-game winless streak with their last English Premier League win coming in February against Leicester City at the Carrow Road.

West Ham United got into the lead with just 11 minutes gone on the clock after Antonio benefited from a Diop’s assist. He added another in the 45th minute before half time and then another 2 in the second half to become the first West Ham United player since David Cross in 1981 to score four goals in a match in the English Premier League.

Norwich City has the fewest away goals scored by a team in an English Premier League season with 7 goals, although they have two more away games still to be played against Chelsea and Manchester City on the final matchday of the season.

Manager of the side, Daniel Farke, stated that although there is disappointment with the outcome of the season, it was always forthcoming.

“From the first day after promotion our chances to survive were perhaps 5% so in 19 out of 20 cases you will go down, Of course, we’re disappointed, but it was the right decision for this club, and I always was happy to stick to this plan.” Farke was quoted by BBC
