Louis van Gaal Netherlands 2022 World Cup

Netherlands aims to secure 2022 WC ticket early as they face Latvia in qualifiers

    October 8, 2021

The Netherlands will be hoping to seal their world cup place as they hope to continue the momentum against Latvia in the qualifiers tonight.

Louis van Gaal’s men had spanked Turkey 6-1 in their last encounter with Barcelona forward Memphis Depay bagging a hattrick.

On the other hand, Latvia will have to figure out how they are going to stop the Orange they will be hosting at the Daugava National Stadium. They are coming into this 2022 world cup qualifiers on the back of a 0-0 draw against Miodrag Radulovic’s Montenegro.

Despite registering six shots on target compared to Latvia’s three, Montenegro could not find the net. If The Netherlands get such an opportunity,

The Netherlands usually share their goals. Aprt from Depay, who is a potet goalscorer, the Orange can rely on Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen, Feyenoord star Guus Til and Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen, PSG’s Giorgio Wijnadul, amongst others.

Looking at the head-to-head information, The Netherlands had won all the four games played so far, showing that the visitors have a clear advantage to set a new record.

During their last meeting, which was this year, the Netherlands won 2-0  with goals coming from Steven Berghuis and Luuk de Jong.

Latvia manager Dainis Kazakevics could bank on Oleksandriya centre-back Kaspars Dubra, RFS midfielder Arturs Zjuzins and Cambuur attacker Roberts Uldrikis against their visitors.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, has a strong squad, with a quality player in almost every department.

van Gaal named Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk, Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, Wijnaldum alongside Barcelona trio of Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong have all been named.

Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken and Club Brugge winger Noa Lang could make their debut during the games.

On paper, it is expected to be an easy ride for the Netherlands, but the game has its surprises.
