My accountability is in favor of the club and the team – Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has stated that he wants the best for the club and the team and thus he has taken some hard decisions since taking over the side’s baton in order to benefit the club.

The Dutchman came under the scanner for his handling of Cristiano Ronaldo, who gave an explosive interview to Piers Morgan, in which he thrashed the team’s owners, management, and the manager.

Ten Hag has demanded all the players to follow a strict schedule in order to get the best out of them. The 52-year-old is not known to mince his words and he has meant business since he has taken over the onus of the club. The Dutchman has won 18 out of his first 25 matches for the Red Devils.

Furthermore, Manchester United have not conceded at Old Trafford since their 3-1 win over Arsenal back in September.

“I have to make choices around players who are not performing and pick the best team. My accountability is in favour of the club and the team,” he told the Manchester Evening News and other British journalists in Spain last month.

“They are the decisions I have to make. It doesn’t matter who is the person, it is about how we perform now.” The likes of Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia already know this all too well.

Since Ronaldo left the club, Manchester United have won all four matches they have played. Meanwhile, the team’s midfielder Scott McTominay revealed Ten Hag asked him personal questions regarding the well-being of his family, which motivates him to give 120% to the coach.

Speaking during pre-season, Scott McTominay detailed: “On tour [in Thailand and Australia], he [Ten Hag] asked me about my family and how they were and how they’re getting on.

“That was a real good touch because I felt like I could then trust him, and want to play for him and be in a team with him, where he’s pushing me.

“I obviously want to be making sure I’m doing my best for him because he’s got a real understanding about my personal life as well, which is massive in terms of a player.

“I’ve never really properly had that before. [I’ve had] other bits from other coaches but I feel like he’s really, really good in that aspect.”

Manchester United won their last match 3-0 against Bournemouth on Wednesday and they will take on Everton in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
