Old Trafford-bound England midfielder Mason Mount has revealed that after spending 16 years at Chelsea, the move to Manchester United is the right step for him at the moment his career is in right now.

The midfielder told Chelsea fans in a video on Tuesday as he comes to the end of his stay at Stamford Bridge. Mason Mount will join Manchester United on a five-year deal after the two teams agreed on a £55m fee, plus £5m in add-ons for the player every.

Other details have been confirmed, with an official announcement and unveiling imminent. The 24-year-old midfielder joined Chelsea as an 8-year-old and has been with the club since then, winning the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup with the Blues.

The midfielder, in the video, appreciated the academy staff, teammates, and coaches he has worked under since his senior team debut in 2017 while he appeased the Blues fans, who he believes won’t be happy with his exit.

I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea, I feel you deserve more than a written statement, so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I have been for all of your support over the last 18 years. I know some of you won’t be happy with my decision, but it’s what’s right for me at this moment in my career.” Mason Mount said.

While Chelsea has been making some wholesale changes to their squad with a lot of players leaving, they nevertheless rejected Manchester United’s first two bids for Mason Mount before accepting a third, which will now make Mount, Erik Ten Hag, and Manchester United’s first summer signing in this transfer window.

He scored 33 goals in 195 appearances for the Blues and joined N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Kai Havertz, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mateo Kovacic, who have also left the club.
