Manchester United legend Roy Keane believes Arsenal must be satisfied with a draw at Anfield against Liverpool

Arsenal shared the spoils with Liverpool after a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Anfield. While most fans believe that Manchester City are now in control to overtake the Gunners in the Premier League title race, former Manchester United legend Roy Keane believes that it is a great point for Arsenal considering the circumstances and the atmosphere in Anfield.

He shared how Liverpool were in the ascendancy late on in the game as their fans got behind them. However, Arsenal held out and Keane feels that the point is a good result for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Arsenal had a 2-0 lead when the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus scored in the eighth and the 26th minute respectively. But Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino pulled the game back for Liverpool. Late on, Liverpool pushed for the winner but Arsenal defenders made sure they return home with at least a point.

This draw means that the Gunners are winless in their last 10 encounters at Anfield in the Premier League. They have secured three draws now and have suffered seven defeats.

Keane explained how difficult it is for an away team to go and win at Anfield. He shares insights form his playing days and highlights that it was a good result for Arsenal considering Liverpool’s late onslaught.

“I don’t like saying it too much, obviously, having played for United but there is something bizarre, particularly when you’re defending and the last 15-20 minutes you’re hanging in there, Liverpool are playing into the Kop, it is extremely difficult, let me tell you,” Keane stated.

Keane understands the scenario that Arsenal are in right now with the draw and how Manchester City are gradually emerging as favourites again. But he feels that things could have been worse with a defeat at Anfield. The defenders pulled off a great job, keeping Arsenal in contention to win the Premier League as they are still at the top.

“The energy that’s in the stadium, obviously the history of the club, is very, very difficult. That’s why I think Arsenal should be really delighted with a point, I really do. I know people will be saying, look at the bigger picture and City are in control of it, I think it’s a great point for Arsenal,” Keane concluded.

Arsenal’s draw means they are still at the top of the Premier League table with 73 points. Whereas Manchester City have 67 points with a match in hand. So the point difference is reduced to only six points and apart from the extra match in hand, City will also face Arsenal on April 27. So Pep Guardiola’s men do have a chance of taking over Arsenal. But the Gunners need to be more confident as they still have matter in their own hands.
