Liverpool recorded their biggest victory over Manchester United with a 7-0 victory on Sunday at Anfield, a result that equaled Manchester United’s biggest loss ever in their Premier League history and the second time they will concede seven without scoring after a 7-0 loss to Wolves in 1931.
Manchester United came into the game on the back of the Carabao Cup win last weekend after beating Newcastle United 2-0 at Wembley. Manchester United were also the favorites to get the victory considering their Premier League position sitting in the Champions League places, although Liverpool has been improving in recent weeks, winning four points from their last two games.
Liverpool’s new lottery win on Sunday would get them closer, and three points away from the UEFA Champions League place with a game in hand, and they looked more origins the fixture dominating Manchester United from the start before getting their first goal just before half-time through Coady Gakpo.
The goal was just his third for Liverpool since joining from PSV in the January transfer window, and little did he know he will add another before the end of the game.
Manchester United totally collapsed in the second half, with Darwin Nunez adding a second goal for Liverpool in the 47th minute before the goal made it 3-0 three minutes later. Mohamed Salah’s goal in the 66th minute before Darwin Nunez got his own brace nine minutes after. Mohammed Salah also got his own brace in the 83rd minute.
Roberto Firmino was only introduced into the game in the 79th minute, but he managed to get his own goal to cap a huge win with two minutes left on the clock.
The result leaves Manchester United in third position, four points away from Tottenham in third and nine away from second place Manchester City, and a further fourteen from Arsenal at the top.
Liverpool has a game in hand, and a win from their outstanding game will put them level with Tottenham in fourth as they currently sit Fifth on the table.
