Lionel Messi agrees to join PSG Saint-Germain on two-year contract – Report

Star striker Lionel Messi is on the cusp of signing a two-year contract with French Club PSG Saint Germain, sports paper L’Equipe said on its website. Messi is expected to reach Paris soon and the club is ready to have a grand welcome for him.

In fact, it was reported that Messi could also join Manchester City but it wasn’t to be. The talisman could not renew his contract with Barcelona due to financial obligations of LA Liga. Messi was even ready to have a 50% wage cut but the final deal could not be completed between him and Barca, which brings an end to an era.

Messi joined the club as a 18-year old young boy and left as one of the greatest football players to have embraced the game.

Messi had a stellar career at Barcelona as he played 778 matches in which he scored a record number of 672 goals and provided astonishing 305 assists.

Meanwhile, Messi will receive a huge salary of £25m per year after tax at PSG Saint-Germain. Thus, the PSG forward line will be a potent one now as Messi will join his former Barca teammate Neymar Jr. and young sensation Kylian Mbappe. PSG is yet to win their maiden Champions League title and they will definitely be one of the favorites with such a strong frontline.

On the other hand, Messi had scored four goals for Argentina in the Copa America and finished as the Player of the tournament as well as Golden Boot winner. Furthermore, he won his first major title with the national team. Ergo, he is in good form as always.

It has been reported Messi’s final deal with PSG Saint-Germain will be completed on Wednesday and then the club will make the official announcement.
