Leon Bailey praises Unai Emery after special victory over Man City

    December 7, 2023

Aston Villa star Leon Bailey has expressed his delight in scoring the goal that won the game for Aston Villa when they defeated Manchester City 1-0 on Wednesday.

The Jamaican scored in the second half to extend Aston Villa’s winning run at home to eight consecutive wins at Villa Park in all competitions.

The win saw Unai Emery’s men bounce back from a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the weekend to record their fifth victory in six matches.

Despite his 74th-minute winner, Liam Bailey gives kudos to Unai Emery for the way he’s done things at Aston Villa and how it has helped him personally on an individual level after a tough time.

“It’s very special. On a night like this, it’s even more special. To get the win, to score the goal, it’s a magnificent feeling. I struggled during my first season but I knew what I was capable of. People believed in me. I’m here to help as much as possible, and I’m so grateful to be able to do that. [Unai Emery] has been amazing. His way of doing things is different. He knows exactly what he wants. Day in and day out, he knows what he’s doing to help us get the three points.” Bailey said.

The win puts Aston Villa above Manchester City on the table as Aston Villa moves to third position with 32 points, four behind league leaders Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Scott McTominay scored a brace to help Manchester United defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Despite an early penalty miss from Bruno Fernandes in the first half, Scott McTominay scored a goal in each half to help Manchester United bounce back from the weekend’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United.

Virgil van Dijk and Dominic Szoboszlai scored as Liverpool recorded a 2-0 victory at Sheffield United. Brighton also defeated Brentford 2-1, while Crystal Palace lost 0-2 to Bournemouth at Selhurst Park.
