Harry Kane’s record-equalling goal secures Spurs victory at Craven Cottage

    January 24, 2023

A late first-half goal from Harry Kane secured Tottenham a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage on Monday against Fulham in the Premier League.

Tottenham traveled to full hand needing to win to improve their recent fortunes in the Premier League, having lost their last two games 2-0 to Arsenal in the North London Derby and a 42 loss to Manchester City last time out.

Within that period, it was confirmed that manager Antonio Conte would not have his contract extended and would be leaving the club in the summer.

It became imperative for him to leave the club on a high, and while the Premier League title is out of reach for the Spurs, a top-four finish was definitely not too hard to ask for.

The win came as a huge relief for the North Londoners, who could not afford any more loss and the risk day Champions League spots.

Despite the victory, Tottenham are three points behind Manchester United with 36 points from 21 games played.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane’s goal is his 199th in the Premier League, and he equaled Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for the Spurs. The striker stated that he wants to continue to play, and it was important for the group to continue to win and stay very close to the other Champions League places.

“A tough week but a clean sheet and a good 1-0 win. It has been difficult whenever you give away a lead, and a 2-0 one at half-time is more difficult to take. We wanted to get back to basics, and the clean sheet will be important if we want to stay by the Champions League spots. We wanted to be compact and suffer a bit in stages. Tonight was a good sign.” Kane said after the game.

Earlier on Monday, Everton sacked Frank Lampard from his position as the team’s manager less than a year after his appointment.

The Toffees have been enduring a poor season as they sit 19th with fifteen points, just above Southampton on goals difference.
