    Haaland scores Manchester derby hat-trick

    October 3, 2022

Norwegian forward Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick, his third consecutive home hat-trick in the Premier League, when Manchester City dismantled Manchester United 6-3 in the Manchester derby in the Premier League on Sunday.

Since moving to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund, Haaland had scored 11 goals in seven matches prior to Sunday’s game.

His hat-trick made him the quickest player to score a Premier League hat-trick in the history of the English top-flight; he also now has 14 goals and three assists in 8 games for the citizens in the Premier League.

His previous hat-tricks came in a 4-2 win against Crystal Palace and a 6-0 bashing of Nottingham Forest in September, with both happening at Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden also got on the hat-trick train with three goals of his own in the game. Manchester United had a better second half with Anthony and French striker Anthony Martial both scoring.

The defeat leaves United in the sixth position with 12 points from seven games, although they have a game in hand.

Manchester City managed to keep up with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who also got a 3-1 victory over North London rivals Tottenham in the North London Derby on Saturday.

Thomas Partey had given the Gunners the lead in the first half of the game with a fantastic strike from outside the 18-yard box. Harry Kane equalized for Spurs at the half-hour mark from the penalty spot.

However, Arsenal dominated the second half scoring through Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal remains at the top of the Premier League table with 21 points from seven games, while Manchester City follows in second with 20 points.

In Sunday’s other game, Leeds United and Aston Villa played out a 0-0 draw at Elland Road, while on Saturday, Liverpool was held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton, and Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 2-1.
