Graham Potter says Chelsea’s transformation is complete

    February 10, 2023

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has injected massive capital into the club, resulting in two transfer windows of record-breaking spending. The Blues have splashed out an astonishing £650m on new players, with no signs of slowing down. Their ambition to reach the top is clear.

In the last January transfer window, the Blues signed eight new players spending more than any other club for a total of £300million; as well as crushing the record for the highest-spending club, they also made the most expensive signing in the entire Premier League with the £106.7m deal for Enzo Fernandez.

According to reports, all the technical staff, including coach Graham Potter, have been involved in the selection of players, and there has not been any imposition on the part of Boehly.

When Potter was asked if the club would continue to shoot up money to sign big players in future transfer windows, he said it was unlikely.

“I don’t think the spending will necessarily continue as it has,” said Potter. “I think there was a regeneration that needed to happen which the club have done. I think we have to say that the next window and the window after will be different.

“I’m certainly not complaining about my position here, that’s for sure. I think you’ll find with football managers they can complain about pretty much anything at any point. At the moment I’m here, it’s a fantastic opportunity, I’m really excited for it.

“There will be challenges, of course there will. But I’m just going to approach it with my similar attitude, which is to do my best and to try to improve and to try and make this club, day by day, better.”
