Giroud Inspires Chelsea To Victory Over Spurs As Manchester City Pips Leicester

    February 23, 2020

Olivier Giroud was, on Saturday afternoon, able to inspire Chelsea to a 2-1 victory over an injury weakened Tottenham Hotspur led by former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea has been pretty inconsistent in their last five games as they have won two, lost two and drew one in all competitions as Giroud played just once before the Spurs visit due to injury.

The visitors also before the game has been dealing with Injury problems as skipper and striker of the side, Harry Kane has been injured and out of action until April.

Similarly, South Korean forward Son Heung-Min also injured his arm in last weekend’s come back 3-2 win against Aston Villa in the Premier League, leaving the team with Lucas Moura as the only recognized forward.

The injury situation reflected when the White Hart Lane side lost at home to the German side, RB Leipzig, in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday by a lone goal.

Similarly, it occurred again on Saturday as the Jose Mourinho led team struggled to create goal scoring opportunities, and it took only 15 minutes before Olivier Giroud turned up with a goal.

Chelsea pressed further in the first half but failed to add another goal in the first half, but it was only three minutes after the restart that the Blues added another.

Marcos Alonso added the second goal from a Ross Barkley assist while Spurs’ only goal came from Anthony Rudiger’s own goal with a minute left in the game.

With the win, Frank Lampard’s side took a stronghold on the fourth and final UEFA Champions League spot as they lead Spurs with 4 points.

Tottenham is in 5th with 40 points, although they could qualify for the Champions League after Manchester City’s two-year ban from the competition.

At the King Power Stadium, Sergio Kun Aguero missed a 62nd-minute penalty, but Gabriel Jesus scored from a fantastic Riyad Mahrez’s assist with ten minutes left in the game to win the game for Pep Guardiola’s men 1-0.
