Fulham leaves it late to snatch a win against Swansea

Fulham has returned to winning ways by taking the maximum points against Swansea at the Craven Cottage.

The winner came from the in-form striker and the highest goalscorer of the team, Aleksandar Mitrovic who jumped to head in the winner to register his 23rd league goal of the season.

The goal came via an incredible cross from Aboubakar Kamara with Mitrovic rising to power the ball in off the underside of the bar just minutes after the striker missed a penalty.

With the match looking like it’s going to end in a stalemate,  the hosts got the opportunity to secure the maximum points when Connor Roberts tangled with Neeskens Kebano in the box, making the referee point to the spot.

Swansea’s goalie, Freddie Woodman, went the right way and kept out Mitrovic’s spot-kick. The rebound fell to the path of Neeskens Kebano, who smashed the ball towards goal but Woodman was also alert to make another superb save with his feet.

In the first twenty minutes of the encounter, Fulham dominated the game, with Ivan Cavaleiro’s effort hitting the bar from a corner and Woodman kept the visitors in the game after saving shots from Anthony Knockaert and Bobby Decordova-Reid.

Mitrovic was close to opening the score chart in the first half, but he fired the ball over. He later got another chance which he rifled off target from a distance.

Swansea also created chances themselves with Andre Ayew rounding Marek Rodak, but  Denis Odoi was there to help out the goalie.  Jake Bidwell later headed wide from a corner to the near post.

The visitors had an appeal for a penalty turned down after the break. It looked like Ayew was tripped in the box by Odoi, but the referee waved it away.

With the win, Fulham has maintained their push for promotion to the Premier League by cementing the third place. They are nine points adrift leaders West Bromwich Albion and six behind second-placed Leeds United, which managed a 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium against Middlesborough through Mateusz Klich’s first-half strike.

Swansea, on the other hand, remains ninth on the log, five points off the play-off positions.
