Frenkie De Jong insists on Barcelona stay

    August 9, 2022

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong isn’t interested in a move out of Camp Nou despite mounting interests from Manchester United.

Frenkie De Jong has been on the list of Erik Ten Hag since he took over at Manchester United this summer. Although the Dutch manager was able to get Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez, De Jong has been elusive.

This is majorly due to wage issues between Barcelona and the player. Barcelona are ready to offload De Jong to free up the wage bill and bring in some money for new players.

They have also tried renegotiating terms with him, but De Jong has repeatedly reiterated that he feels comfortable at the Catalonia club side.

Meanwhile, a fee worth £63.5M has been agreed on between Manchester United and Barcelona, but nothing is yet to be finalized with the player.

The 25-year-old midfielder scored in Barcelona’s 6-0 win against UNAM Pumas in a pre-season friendly

While he wants to stay, Barcelona wants him to take a pay cut, but that doesn’t sit well with the player who Barcelona president Joan Laporta considers a great quality.

“He is a Barca player of great quality, and we want him to stay. He has offers, but we want him to stay, and he wants to stay too,” Laporta said.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have brought in five players this summer, last season’s Bundesliga champion and highest goalscorer Robert Lewandowski, former Leeds United forward Raphinha, french defender Jules Kounde from Sevilla, and the duo of Andreas Christensen and Frank Kessie.

The club is also said to be close to bringing in Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso after failing to reach an agreement for Ceaser Azpilicueta.

Barcelona will start their new La Liga season against Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou on the 13th of August in what will be Xavi’s second season as the club’s manager.
