Former PSG midfielder Thiago Motta understands the pain the players are going through after their exit against Real Madrid

Paris Saint Germain are going through tumultuous times as they got knocked out of the Champions League. The fans also booed players like Lionel Messi and Neymar for not turning up against Real Madrid.

Paris Saint Germain were in cruise control as they took a 1-0 lead from the first leg. Then at Santiago Bernabeu, Kylian Mbappe took the lead once again and piled up a lot of pressure on Los Blancos. They took an enormous advantage at halftime. But Real Madrid just like old times came back roaring as Karim Benzema scored a 17-minute hat-trick to knock PSG out of the tournament.

The PSG players were down and out as the disappointment in their faces were very much visible. Therefore former PSG midfielder Thiago Motta shares how he understands the pain the players are going through. The 39-year-old midfielder currently manages Serie A outfit Spezia shared his thoughts on his former team’s exit in the UEFA Champions League against Los Blancos in the round of 16.

“I’m sad for PSG, for the defeat, but that’s football,” Thiago Motta shared on RMC Sports via Paris Saint Germain Talk.

“I’m sad because I have a lot of friends, former teammates I played with. I know their sadness very well because it’s a strong team, a team that always has the possibility of fighting to get to the end of this competition. It wasn’t for them this year,” the 39-year-old continued.

The aggregate 3-2 loss will pain the Paris Saint Germain players. The French giants have failed to make it past the round in four of their last six UCL appearances. The Parisians reached the finals in 2020 but they lost the finale courtesy of a goal from Paris born winger Kingsley Coman who helped Bayern Munich triumph over the Parisians.

The wait for the Champions League trophy continues at the French capital as despite bringing in Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe also could not help PSG win the elusive title. So eyebrows will be on Mauricio Pochettino after his team got knocked out yet again.

The Argentine tactician is on the verge of getting sacked after yet another disappointing season. The Parisians are running riot in the Ligue 1 but that hardly matters to them as the Champions League was their main target. So the exit leaves Pochettino in a vulnerable position.
