Fiorentina records a comeback win against Atalanta

Fiorentina came back from a poor start to win a five-goal thriller against  Atalanta in a 3-2.

The hosts, who were poor from the beginning of the game, got maximum points via great goals from Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez-Quarta.

Having gone into the clash on the back of a 4-0 thrashing in the hands of Inter Milan before the international break, they seemed low on confidence, which was evident in the clash.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side was also coming into the clash after suffering a surprise loss to Frosinone.

The visitors have had a mixed start to the season, beating Sassuolo and Monza only so far this season.

But they made a bright start on a match in which Davide Zappacosta was making his 100th competitive appearance in the Atalanta jersey. He almost marked it with a goal, only to be denied by a flying Pietro Terracciano fingertip save.

Le Dea were rewarded for their strong start, which paid off when Teun Koopmeiners scored the opener. Marten de Roon rolled across for the Dutch midfielder, who scored with his left foot from the edge of the area into the far bottom corner with the aid of a deflection off Fabiano Parisi.

Despite being behind, the Viola made little impact until the equaliser out of nowhere.

Nico Gonzalez nodded down a ball into the box to Jack Bonaventura, who controlled with his right boot, turned, and volleyed in from 14 yards as he had been given enough time and space to make the skill work.

The hosts now seemed to have woken up as they continued to attack as Lucas Martinez-Quarta stung Marco Carnesecchi’s gloves.

They then turned the game around completely in first-half stoppages when  Martinez-Quarta with a strong header from the Alfred Duncan cross.

Atalanta started brightly again in the second half, but Ademola Lookman hesitated too long on the counter-attack to punish Fiorentina again.

After Nico Gonzalez’s left-foot curler was just wide of the far post, Lookman restored parity when he burst into the box after a quick one-two for De Roon’s second game assist and put the ball into the near bottom corner.

After springing an offside trap, Nico Gonzalez tried to dink Carnesecchi, but the ball hit the side-netting when one-on-one.

Viola would have made it three earlier, but Mario Pasalic made a decisive block to stop Martinez-Quarta from tapping in from six yards.

As the Viola continued to pile further pressure, they restored their lead eventually.

After dribbling forward, Lucas Beltran released a pass to the left, and the Brekalo cross was deflected off Michael Adopo. As several Atalanta players hesitated to clear, Christian Kouame pounced to score the winner.
