Exciting ties as La Liga resumes on Friday

    January 6, 2023

After a barrage of Copa Del Rey fixtures over the week that offered little to no upsets against big teams, La Liga will resume with two fixtures on Friday.

The first set of La Liga games since the World Cup happened in the last three days of 2022, and Copa Del Rey fixtures happened from Tuesday down to Thursday in the first couple of days of 2023.

Thursday’s Copa Del Rey games ended the round of fixtures as Athletic Club beat Eldense 6-1, Betis won 4-1 against Ibiza, and Osasuna needed extra time to beat Gimnastic 2-1.

However, on Friday, two games will go ahead, with Elche hosting Celta Vigo. Elche are the most notable top-flight team knocked out of the Copa Del Rey this week when they were knocked out by Cueta 1-0.

The defeat isn’t a surprise as the team has had to endure a terrible La Liga season where they have only managed four points in fifteen games this season and sitting at the root of the table.

Their Friday visitors are Celta Vigo, who are only a point above the relegation waters that has Sevilla and Cadiz. The visitors are the favorites of the supposed relegation battle.

Elsewhere, Cadiz will hope they can improve their situation, but they must travel to Valencia with the intention of winning.

Their standings on the table may vary in terms of points but using the form guide, Cadiz has done better than Valencia in the last five games.

Cadiz has five points from their last five games with six goals and conceded ten compared to four points in the last five by Valencia, who have also scored six and conceded six.

On Saturday, more games will follow as Villarreal will play Real Madrid, Mallorca vs. Valladolid and Espanyol faces Girona.
