EURO 2020: Italy Announce 26-Man Squad, Injured Verratti Included, Politano Left Out

    June 3, 2021

Italian national Football team coach Roberto Mancini has named his 26-man squad list for Euro 2020. Mancini had earlier selected 33 players on May 24 which were later reduced to 28 and, in the end, to 26.

It appears a balanced squad with both young players like Gianluigi Donnarumma and Giacomo Raspadori as well experienced players of Juventus like Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

Although most of the players are from major Italian clubs like Juventus, Lazio, Napoli and Inter, there are players like Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea, who lifted the UEFA Champions League last week with his club as well as Alessandro Florenzi from Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

The surprise inclusion is Sassuolo forward Giacomo Raspadori, 21, who is yet to make his debut for the Italian team.

Meanwhile, Italy had won the Euro back in 1968 and they will look to come up with a better performance in the tournament.

The Azzurri, as Italian national team is famously called, are in Group A with Switzerland, Turkey and Wales, are all set to kick off the tournament at the Stadio Olimpico against Turkey on June 11.

Here is the complete Italian squad

Goalkeepers: 21 Gianluigi Donnarumma (Milan), 26 Alex Meret (Napoli), 1 Salvatore Sirigu (Torino)

Defenders: 15 Francesco Acerbi (Lazio), 23 Alessandro Bastoni (Inter), 19 Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), 3 Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), 2 Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli), 13 Emerson Palmieri (Chelsea), 24 Alessandro Florenzi (Paris Saint Germain), 4 Leonardo Spinazzola (Roma), 25 Rafael Toloi (Atalanta)

Midfielders: 18 Nicolò Barella (Inter), 16 Bryan Cristante (Roma), 8 Frello Jorge Luiz Jorginho (Chelsea), 5 Manuel Locatelli (Sassuolo), 7 Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma), 12 Stefano Sensi (Inter), 6 Marco Verratti (Paris Saint Germain)

Forwards: 9 Andrea Belotti (Torino), 11 Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), 20 Federico Bernardeschi (Juventus), 14 Federico Chiesa (Juventus), 17 Ciro Immobile (Lazio), 10 Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli), 22 Giacomo Raspadori (Sassuolo)
